Treadmill calorie calculator
Bigger bodies burn more for the same walk. Here's roughly how much.
| Weight | 1.5 mph | 2.0 mph | 2.5 mph | 3.0 mph | 3.5 mph |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 150 lb | 82 | 100 | 107 | 125 | 154 |
| 200 lb | 110 | 133 | 143 | 167 | 205 |
| 250 lb | 137 | 167 | 179 | 208 | 256 |
| 300 lb | 164 | 200 | 214 | 250 | 307 |
| 350 lb | 192 | 233 | 250 | 292 | 358 |
| 400 lb | 219 | 267 | 286 | 333 | 410 |
| 450 lb | 246 | 300 | 321 | 375 | 461 |
| 500 lb | 274 | 333 | 357 | 417 | 512 |
How this is calculated#
These are estimates using the standard MET method from the Compendium of Physical Activities: calories = MET × 3.5 × body weight in kg ÷ 200 × minutes. MET values for walking on a flat surface run from about 2.3 at 1.5 mph to 4.3 at 3.5 mph. Real numbers vary with fitness, incline, holding the rails and the treadmill itself, so treat these as a ballpark, not a measurement.
Walking five days a week at the numbers above adds up: a 300 lb person walking 30 minutes at 2.0 mph burns roughly 1,000 kcal a week from walking alone.
