// Guide

No treadmill? No problem

The plan works anywhere you can walk.

Walk outside#

Pick a flat, safe loop: around the block, a park path or a track. Walk out for half your time and back for the other half. Wear something visible and take your phone.

Mall walking#

Many malls open early for walkers. It's flat, climate-controlled, has benches and bathrooms, and you'll often find a regular crowd.

Walk in place at home#

March in place during a show, or walk laps of your hallway. Five minutes is five minutes.

Use the timer anyway#

The belt timer works for any walk. Start it, put your phone in your pocket, and it'll tell you when you're done.

Thinking of buying a treadmill?#

Check the maximum user weight first and choose one rated well above your weight, with a sturdy deck and side rails. Used treadmills are common and cheap, often because they became coat racks.
