- Treadmill in an apartment
Keep it quiet
Walking is far quieter than running, and a few tweaks make it quieter still.
Under the treadmill#
A thick rubber treadmill mat absorbs vibration and protects the floor. Some people add anti-vibration pads under the feet. Keep it off shared walls.
Maintenance#
A dry deck squeaks and a loose belt slaps. Lubricate and adjust as your manual says; see the treadmill care guide.
How you walk#
Softer, shorter steps land quieter. Cushioned shoes help too.
Timing and neighbors#
Avoid very early mornings and late nights. A friendly heads-up to the downstairs neighbor goes a long way.
