Walk now, sleep later

Regular activity is one of the most reliable ways to improve sleep, and walking counts.

Why it helps#

Being active during the day builds healthy tiredness and can help you fall asleep faster and sleep more deeply. Walks in daylight also help set your body clock.

When to walk#

Any time you'll actually do it. If evening walks leave you wired, try finishing an hour or two before bed and keep the pace easy. Many people find a gentle after-dinner walk relaxing.

Give it a few weeks#

Sleep improvements from activity tend to build over weeks, not nights. Keep the habit going even if the first few nights feel the same.

When to talk to someone#

Loud snoring, gasping at night or daytime sleepiness can be signs of sleep apnea, which is common and treatable. Mention it to your doctor.
