Winter motivation
Winter is the treadmill's season. No ice, no dark sidewalks, no excuses about the weather.
Make the room inviting#
- Bright light helps: open the curtains in the day, use a bright lamp at night.
- Keep the room comfortably cool, not cold. Start in a sweater and peel it off.
- A small fan and a playlist make it feel like somewhere you want to be.
Walk at the brightest time you can#
If you can, walk in the morning or at lunch. Daylight and movement together can help mood and sleep through the darker months.
Lower the bar on hard days#
On gloomy days, the deal is five minutes. You can stop after five. Most days you won't.
Plan something to look forward to#
Save a winter series for the belt, join a buddy challenge, or pick a virtual route and watch the map fill in.
Low mood that doesn't lift#
Feeling down most days for weeks, especially every winter, is worth talking to a doctor about. It's common and treatable.
