Walking with fibromyalgia

Movement is often one of the most helpful things for fibromyalgia, but too much on a good day can mean a rough few days after. Pacing is the skill.

Start below what you think you can do#

Pick a time you can manage even on a bad day, like 3–5 minutes, slow and flat. Do that most days for a week or two before adding anything.

Build by a minute, not a mile#

Add a minute or two a week if the next-day pain stays about the same. If it flares, drop back to the last comfortable amount.

On flare days#

Two minutes, or a gentle stretch instead, still keeps the habit alive. Rest without guilt.

Talk to your care team#

Ask about a graded activity plan, physical therapy, and how your medicines affect energy and sleep.
