Cold-weather walks
The treadmill is your winter base, but a walk outside on a bright cold day can feel great. Dress and plan for it.
Layers#
A wicking base layer, a warm middle layer and a wind-proof outer layer. Hat and gloves; you can always take them off.
Ice and dark#
Shoes with good grip or traction cleats. Walk in daylight or on well-lit routes, with something reflective.
Heart and lungs#
Cold air makes the heart work harder. If you have heart or lung conditions, warm up indoors, cover your mouth with a scarf, and check with your doctor. Chest pain means stop.
Too icy? Go indoors#
That's what the treadmill is for. The minutes count the same.
