Water and walking
For short walks you don't need sports drinks or a plan. A few habits are enough.
Before#
A glass of water in the hour before you walk is a good habit, especially in the morning or if the room is warm.
During#
For walks under about 30 minutes, sips whenever you're thirsty are fine. Keep a bottle in the treadmill's holder so you don't have to stop.
After#
Drink to thirst. Pale yellow urine is a simple sign you're doing well.
Signs you need more#
- Headache, dizziness or feeling unusually tired.
- Dark urine.
- Dry mouth that doesn't go away.
Check with your doctor if…#
You've been told to limit fluids (for example with some heart or kidney conditions), or you take medications such as diuretics. Your doctor's advice comes first.
