Walking over 80
Staying active helps independence, balance and mood at any age. Safety and a gentle start are everything.
Check with your doctor#
Especially about heart, balance, medicines that cause dizziness, and recent falls.
Safety on the belt#
- Always use the safety key and both rails.
- Start the belt at the lowest speed before stepping on, or step on first if your treadmill starts slowly.
- Have someone nearby until you're confident.
- Good lighting and non-slip shoes.
Small goals#
Two to five minutes, once or twice a day, is a great start.
Pair with balance and strength#
Sit-to-stands and holding-the-counter balance moves make walking steadier.
