Walking with gout
During a flare, rest the joint. Between flares, regular walking helps your overall health, weight and joints.
During a flare#
Rest and elevate the joint and follow your doctor's treatment. Don't walk through a hot, swollen, very painful joint.
Between flares#
Ease back with short, flat walks in roomy, supportive shoes. Build up slowly.
Drink water#
Staying hydrated is commonly advised with gout. Keep water by the treadmill.
Talk to your doctor#
About medicines that prevent flares, diet, and whether any of your other medicines affect gout.
