Walking through menopause
Hormone changes can shift weight, sleep, mood and joints. Regular walking won't fix everything, but it helps with a lot of it.
Why it's worth it#
- Weight-bearing activity like walking helps protect bone strength.
- Regular movement can help sleep and mood.
- It supports heart health, which matters more after menopause.
Hot flashes on the treadmill#
Keep a fan and cold water handy, dress in layers you can peel off, and walk in a cool room. A slower pace on hot-flash days still counts.
Add a little strength#
Pair walking with simple strength moves two or three times a week. Muscle helps with metabolism, balance and joints.
Talk to your doctor about#
Symptoms that disrupt sleep or daily life, bone density testing, and whether any treatment is right for you.
