- Walking with anxiety and panic
A calmer walk
Walking often helps anxiety. But if a faster heartbeat sets off worry, start in a way that feels safe.
Start gentle and predictable#
Slow, steady pace, same time each day, a show or podcast you like. Predictable feels safer.
Use your breath#
Breathe out longer than you breathe in, for example in for 3 steps, out for 5. Try the walking meditation on the timer.
A faster heartbeat is normal#
Exercise raises your heart rate; that's expected. If it worries you, slow down until it settles, then continue.
Get help if#
Anxiety or panic is stopping you living your life, or you have chest pain or fainting: see a doctor. In the US you can call or text 988 any time.
