Walking with chronic pain
For many kinds of long-term pain, staying gently active helps more than resting. The art is pacing.
Find your baseline#
The amount you can do on a bad day without a flare afterwards. Even two minutes. Start there, most days.
Build slowly#
Add a little every week or two, not every day. Some soreness is OK; a big flare means you did too much too soon.
Use what helps#
Warmth before, gentle stretching after, a comfortable pace, and something to listen to.
Get support#
Pain clinics, physical therapists and psychologists who work with pain can make a real difference. Ask your doctor.
