- Walking when you're depressed
When everything feels heavy
Depression drains motivation, which makes 'just exercise' unhelpful advice. Smaller steps work better.
Lower the bar#
Shoes on counts. Two minutes counts. You don't have to feel like it first; sometimes the feeling follows the doing.
Make it easy#
Same time each day, a show you like, the coach voice on. Remove every step you can between you and the belt.
Notice small shifts#
Log your mood before and after in the journal. Small lifts are real.
Get help#
Walking can help, but it isn't a substitute for care. If you feel hopeless or think about harming yourself, talk to someone now: in the US call or text 988, or contact local emergency services.
